In contrast to other assets, high-yield bonds offer reliable income. If a high-yield issuer requests to have their bonds called before maturity, bondholders are compensated with a premium for the inconvenience. This is to make up for any losses experienced when some bonds default. Doing this helps investors feel more secure about their investment.
